Botanika at Doc Aviv film festival

Documentary film festival, Doc Aviv, has been established as one of the top events in Israel for cinema in particular, and culture, in general. We are happy to see the music section of the festival growing every year, and are even happier to take part in this year’s festival in as many as 3 different occasions.

The main event is a free beach screening of the Gordon Mason documentary on the history of Rave culture, aptly called – They Call it Acid. Who’s on it? Take a deep breath: Adamski, Carl Cox, Colin Faver, Frankie Foncett, A Guy Called Gerald, Larry Heard, Marshall Jefferson, Jazzy M, Graham Massey (808 State), Derrick May, Mark Moore, Paul Oakenfold, Robert Owens, Danny Rampling, Pete Tong and.. you guessed it.. many others.

The screening will take place on Monday, May 10th, at 8:30PM at the Tel Aviv Port.
The entrance is free, and us Botanika will play some classic electronic music before and after.

There are quite a few more music documentaries at the festival this year, and you can catch us playing at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque main hall before and after a few of these films.

On Saturday, May 8th at 7PM, Nadav Ravid will spin some music before the phenomenal Blur documentary – No Distance Left to Run.

A week later, on Friday the 14th at 7PM, Amir Egozy will do his spinning around the Reggae documentary, Holding on to Jah, and the story of legendary soul singer, Bill Withers – Still Bill.

Obviously, you can come to the Cinematheque hall and enjoy the music and the festival vibes for free, even if you haven’t bought a ticket for any of the movies..

This year’s installment of Botanika FM in Israel was made especially for 106FM’s all-Israeli music week. It’s the 4th time we’ve done such a show (maybe 5th? I def remember doing one with Nadav in either 06′ or 07′, starting off with Matti Caspi, played on 45 instead of 33), so I’ve almost run out of lost classics from the narrow archives of Israeli produced electronic/funky music. Trying not to repeat myself, this time I’ve concentrated only on the new & fresh sounds hailing from our community (bar the oh-so-ironic Spirit of Israel & Soul Messengers track form the Numero Group re-issue).

It’s a bit of a mess, as it was recorded in quite a rush with me wanting to cramp in too much stuff, which sadly i didn’t manage to fit it all in (Idan K’s energetic afro-house for example). Nevertheless, I hope it can serve as an interesting snapshot, with brand new music from local producers we’ve been digging for a long time, as well as some new & emerging talents.
