Misshapes is a New York City based DJ team, and the name of an international, successful and long running party. The local Misshapes parties are inspired by the NYC blueprint, and have just launched at the Milk/Breakfast Club complex, on the very beginning of Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv.

Here’s how it’s gonna play out – at 10PM, the party will kick off at the Milk, playing indie offshoots for the hipsters and bloggers alike (Mis Shapes is a song by Pulp, after all). Two hours into the party, a little bit after Midnight, the second floor will be opened at the Breakfast club, focusing on deep house and disco, just the way we like it.

And this is where we come into the picture – Botanika (that’s us!), will have a monthly residency at the parties, starting next Friday, July the 16th. Just to give you the general context, the first party which took place last week, featured Yogo & No_Moon.

Oh, and have we mentioned the free entrance and cheap booze? Seems like we have a date, then..

Misshapes,
Every Friday at 10pm at Milk and Breakfast Club

We’re happy to give props to our friends at local crews, Tabac and Hargol, for the brilliant initiative, Teder FM.

First and foremost, Teder is a web-based radio station, streaming heaps of great music by the best selectors of the Tel Aviv underground scene (OK, some actually come from Jerusalem and Haifa). The station will operate for 120 days only, live daily between 2 PM and 2 AM.

Now, to make it even better, the station is located in a beautiful, almost forgotten spot in Tel Aviv, where you will find not just transmitters, wires and DJs, but also a fine bar / coffee shop, where you can enjoy your Ice Latte or a cold beer, watch the action closely and generally be part of one the most exciting ongoing cultural events our city has had to offer in a long, long time.

The list of participants is simply too long to name check here, so make sure you check out the full schedule on the Teder.fm website (only in Hebrew at the moment). Yours truly, the Botanika crew, is also grabbing a piece of the action, so drop by, either in person or via the live stream, and give us a shout!

Botanika at Doc Aviv film festival

Publish DateApril 27, 2010Published By Published by Nadav

Documentary film festival, Doc Aviv, has been established as one of the top events in Israel for cinema in particular, and culture, in general. We are happy to see the music section of the festival growing every year, and are even happier to take part in this year’s festival in as many as 3 different occasions.

The main event is a free beach screening of the Gordon Mason documentary on the history of Rave culture, aptly called – They Call it Acid. Who’s on it? Take a deep breath: Adamski, Carl Cox, Colin Faver, Frankie Foncett, A Guy Called Gerald, Larry Heard, Marshall Jefferson, Jazzy M, Graham Massey (808 State), Derrick May, Mark Moore, Paul Oakenfold, Robert Owens, Danny Rampling, Pete Tong and.. you guessed it.. many others.

The screening will take place on Monday, May 10th, at 8:30PM at the Tel Aviv Port.
The entrance is free, and us Botanika will play some classic electronic music before and after.

The full program at the festival's website

There are quite a few more music documentaries at the festival this year, and you can catch us playing at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque main hall before and after a few of these films.

On Saturday, May 8th at 7PM, Nadav Ravid will spin some music before the phenomenal Blur documentary – No Distance Left to Run.

A week later, on Friday the 14th at 7PM, Amir Egozy will do his spinning around the Reggae documentary, Holding on to Jah, and the story of legendary soul singer, Bill Withers – Still Bill.

Obviously, you can come to the Cinematheque hall and enjoy the music and the festival vibes for free, even if you haven’t bought a ticket for any of the movies..

Gilles Peterson in Tel Aviv

Publish DateApril 9, 2010Published By Published by Nadav

Tastemaker, labels founder and owner, crate digger, worldwide radio institution, globe trotting DJ – Gilles Peterson is all these and then some. Well, we could go on and fill up this page with props and praises, but we’ll leave it for tons of other sites that will do it better and in a more orderly manner… It’s enough to say, however, that Gilles  was and still is a huge influence on us Botanikats, in the last, er… 15 years, and that his weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 is going through a really good phase at the moment, playing a lot of fresh cuts, with insightful interviews with some of the most exciting artists on the planet.

This is Gilles’ second visit in Israel, 11 odd years after a gig at Tel Aviv’s port doomed Hangar. This time, Gilles will be able to enjoy one of the best sound-systems in the world, serving justice to his wide spectrum of sounds.

Local warm up will include Radio Trip, Zidan and The Block’s own Yaron Trax, while us, Botanika will take on the closing spot.

Doors open at 11PM, 120-110 Shekels to get in
(limited amount of discount tickets can be purchased via these numbers:

Loft in Space – Brave New World

Publish DateApril 5, 2010Published By Published by Nadav

Spring is here, there’s no denying. And as it’s a short-yet-sweet transitional period before the punishing Tel Aviv summer, we should celebrate it in an appropriate manner. And the best manner, is resurrecting our Loft parties, for a  one off event at a new and exciting location.

B32 is a new venue located on the second floor, inside the oh-so-retro El Al building, on 32 Ben Yehuda street. It’s slightly bigger than the Lincoln Loft which hosted our previous parties, so there is more room for you to shake your limbs.

The music will be taken care off by the Loft locals (didn’t want to use the word “residents”, see?) – Amir Egozy and Nadav Ravid, for the entire night. Expect the unique blend of Black and White, New and Old, slow burners and hands-in-the-air moments for a total experience of musical delight.

Oh, and the prices on the door are still ridiculous.

Loft in Space – Brave New World
Thursday, April 8th
