BALUT017: Three Parts Remix EP
Following the release of the Polar Pair album late last year, here’s a quality pack of remixes for six tracks, divided to three parts.
Part 1 is the more straightforward club package, containing remixes by two of Tel-Aviv’s most promising duos. The first remix is delivered by Red Axes, the new hot shots now signed to the French stable I’m a Cliche. The duo gravitated towards the punky-funky Indifferent, and added their signature sounding rugged disco assault. Deep’a and Biri, with a new album to be released on Gigolo Records and a cut on Derrick May’s recent We Love Detroit Compilation, took the sublime disco anthem Star, and transformed it into a Berghain techno stormer.
Part 2 takes the tempo down a notch and a couple of miles high into the stratosphere. Generation Bass’ maestro, SaBBo, treats Not Real with a heavy stomping beat, which sounds new as much as it brings to mind classic Leftfield tracks.
The second remix here is by Botanika’s Bunny on Acid, now adopting a new moniker, Grá, that matches his deep and intricate sound, with a new album coming soon on Studio Rockers. He’s take on album opener, Let’s Go, is a dubby trip through reverberating spaces and a disjointed 808 beat that holds it all together.
Part 3, as its name – Self-Mutilation – suggests, has a couple of remixes done by Polar Pair themselves. Picked from the remix series they released every other week via their soundcloud page, it contains a deep and slow house workout for the soulful Hope You Know, and a new wave pastiche meets techno on the Fantasy Love remix.

Bunny on Acid debut LP out now
Izik Finley, AKA Bunny on Acid, has finally unleashed his debut album, A Way Back Home, on his own Holy Dubs imprint. If you have been following Bunny’s 3 releases on Botanika records, his album’s themes will sound familiar to you. Even more, he is letting himself explore deeper soundscapes and combine them with highly charged emotional motives. Head to the bandcamp page and bag a copy of the album.
BALUT011: Bunny on Acid – A Scratch on the Heart (6/2011)
Rounding off a triplet of releases for Botanika, Jerusalem’s Bunny on Acid delivers us a 3-track EP of his most sensual and heartfelt statements so far.
Kicking off with the claps-based rhythmatism of the A Scratch on the Heart title track, a deep and bouncy affair that will keep any dancefloor hypnotized, the EP delves into even deeper musical territories, bringing to the fore strong sentiments of longing and heartbreak. Through the minimalistic soul of Luv Hurts, where wooden percussion interacts with deep pads and a morose vocal, to 0433, which takes off on some bottom-heavy sub action until the light shines through it’s savouring bassline – this EP finds Bunny maturing into an artist gearing up for longer and fuller musical statements.
Aside from his Botanika trilogy, Bunny on Acid has been busy remixing the likes of Brotto, A Piece of Shh, and Israeli indie group Lorena B, developing his craft and gearing up towards his debut artist album, A Way Back Home, to be released on his Holy Dubs imprint in late 2011, as well as the Bionic Dreams EP to be released on the UK-based 2019 Recordings.

BALUT009: Bunny on Acid – Oxygen (02/2011)
Oxygen is Bunny On Acid’s second release on Botanika and in many ways, it’s a sequel to 2010’s Snow.
The title track is an intense drum machine workout, fusing a driving sub-bass melody with a pad that sounds like polluted air wafting through a dystopian metropolis.
The B-side, Twisting & Turning, veers towards more obscure territories (similar to Snow’s b-side, Unknown), cutting vocal samples against reversed synths and displaced drum beats – imagine Hudson Mohawke getting lost in a forest of jelly antennas.
Rounding off the release is Botanika’s NDV remix of Oxygen, re-inventing it as a 2-step inspired spiritual journey, oozing with bass and far away choirs.
Oxygen’s cover was designed by Heela Harel, a local Tel-Aviv designer, street art hunter and general fashion guru.
Oxygen is released digitally on February 28th
BALUT007: Bunny on Acid – Snow (09/2010)
Bunny On Acid (Izik Finley) is a 25 years old DJ/Producer from Jerusalem. He started his musical path at the age of 15, playing bass guitar in several local acts, and later stinting as a computer games music producer. Though he was already playing around with a bit of D’n'B productions for a while, it was only a after a revelatory visit to DMZ at Brixton’s Mass, that Izik created the Bunny On Acid moniker, influenced by the dubstep movement and the FlyLo-like fringes of the hip-hop world.
Locked in the studio while not DJing alongside his Red Eye Familia crew, Bunny on Acid is now focusing on his debut album, influenced by 2-Step, Dubstep, Drum & Bass and the latest Garage mutations – trying to expand on those, taking them into further spaces in & outside the club scenario.
“Snow”, the debut single by BOA, is a startling showcase of his talent. A lush and atmospheric dubstep piece – washes of emotive and poignant pads set against quivering, insisting beats, with a bottom end that holds it all together and makes the inner bits of your stomach bubble up.
The B Side, “Unknown”, takes a further leap into the, well, unknown. Fractures of vocals, synth sweeps and beats are breaking on to the ear, and then reversing like digital ocean waves, creating new rhythms and textures while sounding like the bastard son of Hud Mo & Strakey during a night-swim in the Atlantic.
“Snow” b/w “Unknown” is just the tip of the Bunny iceberg, taken from an ever evolving flow of tracks he’s churning out of the studio on a weekly basis. Def more to come.
