BALUT017: Three Parts Remix EP

BALUT017B_800

Following the release of the Polar Pair album late last year, here’s a quality pack of remixes for six tracks, divided to three parts.

Part 1 is the more straightforward club package, containing remixes by two of Tel-Aviv’s most promising duos. The first remix is delivered by Red Axes, the new hot shots now signed to the French stable I’m a Cliche. The duo gravitated towards the punky-funky Indifferent, and added their signature sounding rugged disco assault. Deep’a and Biri, with a new album to be released on Gigolo Records and a cut on Derrick May’s recent We Love Detroit Compilation, took the sublime disco anthem Star, and transformed it into a Berghain techno stormer.

Part 2 takes the tempo down a notch and a couple of miles high into the stratosphere. Generation Bass’ maestro, SaBBo, treats Not Real with a heavy stomping beat, which sounds new as much as it brings to mind classic Leftfield tracks.
The second remix here is by Botanika’s Bunny on Acid, now adopting a new moniker, Grá, that matches his deep and intricate sound, with a new album coming soon on Studio Rockers. He’s take on album opener, Let’s Go, is a dubby trip through reverberating spaces and a disjointed 808 beat that holds it all together.

Part 3, as its name – Self-Mutilation – suggests, has a couple of remixes done by Polar Pair themselves. Picked from the remix series they released every other week via their soundcloud page, it contains a deep and slow house workout for the soulful Hope You Know, and a new wave pastiche meets techno on the Fantasy Love remix.

On Monday, 17.10, we’ll be doing our first ever full label profile, happening at pop-up radio-bar Teder, taking over from the early evening into deep in the night slot. Coinciding with Teder’s last week of programs for Summer 2011 and the end of the local holiday season, it’s a great opportunity for a full Botanika family gathering like we’ve never done before.

Starting at 8PM (Israel time, +2 GMT), and going on till the last drop (somewhere around 3Am or so), we’ll be showcasing the full Botanika artists roster, one by one, with special radio-friendly DJ sets, focusing on the artists and their productions, alongside interviews, inspirations, chats with designers involved with the label, special discounts on Botanika records and so forth.

Here’s also a recent label profile and interview with us on Tel-Aviv’s ‘Ha-ir’ weekly (Hebrew)

Schedule will probably look like this:

8-9 PM – Markey Funk
9-10 – Michael  Cohen
10-11 – NDV (representing the wide NDV-Polar Pair spectrum)
11-12 – Bunny on Acid (his new ‘Bionic Dreams‘ has just been released on 2019 Records)
12-1 AM – Sabbo
1-2  - Kalbata
2-3 – Amir Egozy

For the special occasion we’ll be offering one-time bundles of our vinyl & digital releases to be purchased on the spot.

You can either tune in and listen form afar, or if in the vicinity, join us at the Teder plaza for a beer & vegetables with techini. FB event here.

If you’re quick and reading this on the day of posting, you can also catch Egozy’s last Rasham-Kol radioshow on Teder, airing tonight between 9-11PM Israel time.

Sabbo presents Freaktion

Our man Sabbo, who’s been busier & busier touring & producing since his debut solo release on Botanika in 2009, has just released the juke/footwork inspired “Freaktion EP”, via Generation Bass. Getting serious props from Sinden, Diplo, Munchi, and even Chicago’s own DJ Rashad, saying “This man does footwork better than most producers in Chicago!”, it’s 4 tracks of straight-up uptempo frenzy business from the man. Check out the EP mini-mix below, and make way to his Soundcloud page, where he shares remixes on a regular basis, like his latest remix for the Count & Sinden, which you can grab right here.

Freaktion EP(minimix)-soon on Generation Bass by Sabbo

If you live stateside, you can catch him and the Soulico gang on their February-March US tour, touching base in LA (23/2), San Francisco (24/2), Portland (25/2), Seattle (26/2) & Chicago (1/3).

Botanika showcase on Dialogue Inc

Dialogue Inc is a radio show and a blog, curated by Chicago’s Mister Joshua P. Ferguson. Josh is a local DJ who was recently nominated in URB as one of America’s best local DJs, and by day he’s the editor of the night life section at Time Out Chicago.

Josh asked me to do a special Botanika feature for Dialogue Inc, and I happily obliged. First of all, there’s the music. I did a 50 mins Botanika showcase, previewing some unreleased material and some other gems by the artists on the Botanika roster, and in-between all of this goodness, I scattered some tracks by other musicians we like and respect, just to put things in the right context..

Anyway, you can find the post right here, including a short interview with myself, and the show’s tracklist.

In the meantime, start listening here

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our very own label shop, enabling you to get all of the Botanika releases in one convenient spot. All of our digital releases are currently available, and we will soon add the physical products too, i.e vinyl records, and at some point in the future, various merchandise (George Lucas, behind you!).

Our shop will also feature free downloads from our artists, starting with the NDV remix for the 80′s classic, Don’t Go. We priced our releases in a sensible manner – one US Dollar for a track, regardless of format (MP3, FLAC, etc), with a 25% discount when you buy a full release. Support us, if you like what we’re doing, and many thanks to the great Bandcamp platform, for making this all possible.
